Clothing Duas

Clothing is a blessing and a trust. These duas accompany moments of dressing with gratitude, dignity, and intention — in the spirit of modest living.

When putting on clothes

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī kasānī hādhā wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.

Praise be to Allah who has clothed me with this and provided it for me, with no power or strength from myself.

When wearing a new garment

Allāhumma laka al-ḥamdu anta kasawtanīhi, as’aluka min khayrihi wa khayri mā ṣuni‘a lahu, wa a‘ūdhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri mā ṣuni‘a lahu.

O Allah, praise is Yours. You have clothed me with it. I ask You for its good and the good for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil for which it was made.

When looking in the mirror

Allāhumma kamā ḥassanta khalqī fa ḥassin khuluqī.

O Allah, as You have made my appearance beautiful, make my character beautiful as well.

When removing clothes

Bismillāh.

In the name of Allah — recited when removing garments, seeking His protection and blessing.

A short dua of gratitude for clothing

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi alladhī kasānī mā uwārī bihi ‘awratī wa atajammalu bihi fī an-nās.

Praise be to Allah who has clothed me with that which covers my body and with which I adorn myself among people.
